The Bf 109 evolved through various stages of development, and soon it replaced all previous models in first-line service with the Luftwaffe. It was eventually replaced by the Bf 109E which went into mass production toward the end of 1939.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was in service with the Luftwaffe for nearly a decade. It is thought that over 33,000 were built between 1936 and the end of World War II.
Messerschmitt Bf 109 is published as part of the "Classic WWII Aviation" series.
