The battleships of the Pacific Fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941 arrived there from the West Coast in May,1940 for annual maneuvers. With the international situation deteriorating in late May, 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered the fleet to remain at Pearl Harbor as a deterrent against possible Japanese aggression. Before their sortie to Hawaii, the battleships of the Pacific Fleet were based 2,500 miles away at San Pedro Bay in Southern California. This book is about the Battle Fleet at San Pedro - Long Beach 1919-1940 and into World War II.
