Apart from a prestigious reputation for the manufacture of weighing machines and shop fittings par excellence, the name of Parnall was long associated with many aspects of aviation. During the First World War Parnall & Sons Ltd built several types of aircraft under sub-contract and by 1918 had designed and built two naval machines of their own, the second of which was relatively successful.
