WWII was in its 3rd year when the most outstanding fighter aircraft of the war, the North Amer- ican Mustang, made its operational debut. This tells the Mus- tang's amazing story which started in 1940 when British representatives were in the U.S. urgently seeking all types of aircraft to supplement RAF numbers. The first Mustang arrived in England on Ocotber 24, 1941. Mustangs were used in the U.S. until 1957 but they still served in the air forces of over 20 other countries years beyond that.
