‘The Memphis Belle’ is the only motion picture ever reviewed on the front page of the ‘New York Times.’ Such was the emotional impact of a film that became an instant classic. It was directed by William Wyler, one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed directors. An 8th Air Force officer, he was assigned to the 91st Bomb Group where he filmed a number of combat missions with crew of a B-17 named ‘The Memphis Belle.’
