At the beginning of World War I a bomber was an ordinary Aeroplane from which small bombs were dropped over the side from an open cockpit.

During World War II they developed into all-weather, day and night fighting machines that bristled with defensive machine-guns and could transport and deliver a 14,000 lb. bomb at a range of 1,000 miles.

By the end of the century, bombers could fly at Mach 2 and some were almost invisible to radar.

Bombers of the 20th Century - Vital Guide

The transformation of the bomber from being a “bit of a nuisance” to the men in the WWI trenches to that of a delivery system that could take out a small country with a single bomb is remarkable.

Bombers of the 20th Century is a concise, detailed and color illustrated guide to the most famous bombers of the 20th Century. It includes aircraft from around the world in chronological order so that every period can be compared from those of the two World Wars to flight at Mach 2.

Includes: specifications, powerplants, dimensions, performance, weights and armament.

112 pgs, softbound, 5.75 x 9, 220 b&w and color photographs.
