#18 in the Walk Around series. The F/A-18 Hornet was originally built by the Northrup Corporation as the YF-17 Cobra during the 1970s. It was designed to meet requirements of the Air Force's Lightweight Fighter competition, which it failed to win. The YF-17 was then resurrected to fulfill a Navy/Marine Corps requirement for a modern, carrier-based fighter & attack aircraft.
