Twenty-five years later after its first flight the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is still considered the world’s most formidable air superiority fighter. Although conceived during the late 1960s and early 1970s, it has scored an impressive number of air to air kills in the late 1980s and 1990s, by most accounts approaching 100, with no known air to air losses. It has also, in its Strike Eagle variant, gained a considerable long-range air-to-ground interdiction capability that was well demonstrated in the Gulf War. The F-15 has been in constant production for over twenty years, with at least three more years worth already ordered. Well over 1500 Eagles have been produced.
